Diagnosing Cellulitis of the Penis with Point-of-Care Ultrasonography in a Resource-Limited Setting

Cellulitis is a potentially serious bacterial skin infection. Penile cellulitis refers to the inflammation of penile shaft and commonly occurs in uncircumcised, sexually active young adults. We reported case 25-year-old heterosexual circumcised male patient with two-day history swelling pain over shaft. Local examination revealed diffusely swollen shaft, erythematous, warm touch, tender. The discharge culture was suggestive Streptococcus species Ultrasonography penis showed increased echogenicity left side soft tissue markedly Doppler signal, indicating cellulitis. Based on these findings, diagnosed managed broad-spectrum antibiotics. Though clinical are sufficient diagnose cellulitis, our highlighted that ultrasound could also support diagnosis help rule out differentials.
